He has played for Scotland U17 and U19. His debut at the older level was marked with a try in the 55-13 win against Scotland’s Italian contemporaries at Lasswade, Edinburgh, in March 2009, and he played also against the French a month later at Dourdan. He has also played for Edinburgh U16 and U17. Having played both Scotland U17 and 19 James was called up to the U20 team for the 2010 6 Nations and IRB JWC in Argentina earning seven caps.
James was introduced to rugby through the Dumfries mini set up before going on to play for Merchiston School in Edinburgh.
James will join teh Glasgow squad as a full-time contracted pro at the end of 2012.
