March 26, 2006Cardiff Blues 31 - 3 Glasgow WarriorsCeltic League match played at Arms Park on Friday March 24th 2006 | No comments
Cardiff Blues defied a filthy night and a sodden pitch to complete a Celtic League double over Glasgow.
The Warriors are bringing up the rear of the Scottish trio and will need to improve their defence if that situation is to change. After early Glasgow pressure, the Blues took command with two tries in a three-minute spell midway through the first half. The first came from the sort of sniping break that scrum-half Mike Phillips has produced next door at the Millennium Stadium when playing for Wales. This time he shot through a gap at the tail of a line-out, without a hand laid on him, and touched down near the posts for Nicky Robinson to convert. Robinson claimed the second, falling on the ball after brother Jamie and Craig Morgan had hacked on following a dropped pass in the Glasgow midfield. Dan Parks pulled three points back with a penalty for a high tackle by Martyn Williams, but the Blues finished the half in style. Skipper Rhys Williams broke through weak defence to send flying wing Chris Czekaj in at the flag. The Blues took just eight minutes of the second session to seal the bonus point, the pack driving the hapless visitors back for 20 yards before Martyn Williams touched down for Nicky Robinson to convert. The forwards' dominance was underlined with another surge across the whitewash, replacement flanker Andy Powell claiming the try with almost his first touch of the ball. Robinson kicked the goal.
