September 18, 2006Glasgow Warriors 13 - 5 Edinburgh GunnersDevelopment match played at Whitecraigs on Monday September 18th 2006 | 9 comments
Scott Barrow went over for Glasgow's first try Glasgow's back-up squad overcame their Edinburgh counterparts in dreadful conditions at Whitecraigs this afternoon. The match, which was played in constant rainfall, marked the return from injury of a number of Glasgow players including Scott Lawson, Ben Prescott and Colin White. Edinburgh started the better but Glasgow went over for the first try with centre Scott Barrow turning up in time to get the touchdown after a series of impressive drives from the Warriors forwards. The conversion was missed as it was becoming clear that the driving rain would make a high scoring game very unlikely. Rory Kerr, the former Glasgow winger now with Hawks and on trial with Edinburgh, looked lively in the early stages but his match was cut short when he had to leave the field with a knock. Glasgow's James Eddie was also forced off the pitch with an ankle injury. After the break Edinburgh put together some impressive driving play but the conditions and aggressive defence from Glasgow led to a number of dropped passes and knock-ons. The Gunners eventually got on the scoreboard with a Fergus Pringle try after a great breakout from the Edinburgh half of the pitch. Mike Adamson edged the home team 8-5 in front with a penalty. The Gunners then subjected Glasgow to a long period of pressure but the Warriors - with Eric Milligan leading from the front - soaked up everything that was on offer and eventually broke the siege to clinch the game with a trademark Sam Pinder try, the scrum-half jinking past a group of Gunners players to score. The conversion was missed but Glasgow were never threatened again running out 13-5 winners. There were a few standout performances - Scott Barrow looked sharp and Scott Lawson, obviously glad to be back in action, was busy during his time on the pitch. Number 8 Calum Forrester was excellent throughout with one great run from his own half catching the eye, while Mike Adamson might lack a bit of height and weight but he showed great technique to put in some big hits as Glasgow's last line of defence. He had a good game, I'm sure he's a frustrated winger! Posted by Big Blue on September 19, 2006 12:00 AM | Reply to this comment God, my stutter is getting worse. From what we heard this afternoon, Donnie was missing for the best of reasons. I'm sure the Editor will have full details tomorrow. Posted by sunday5 on September 19, 2006 08:03 AM | Reply to this comment I see, hope everything's ok with him.
