Castres 21 - 26 Glasgow Warriors

Friendly match played at Millau on Saturday August 2nd 2008 | 13 comments

Mark McMillan's late try won the game for Glasgow
Glasgow Warriors got their French tour off to a winning start when they snatched a 26-21 win over Castres Olympique at the Stade Municipale in Millau last night courtesy of a last minute try from Mark McMillan.

The French side looked to be heading for a win with three tries before the Scots battled back with tries from Chris Kinloch, Daryl Gibson and Hefin O'Hare.

After the game, Warriors assistant coach Shade Munro said: “It was a very positive exercise from an experimental point of view. Around 25 players played and they all got a decent amount of game time. They all played an equal part in the win.

“It was also a good opportunity to try out some of the new ELVs (Experimental Law Variations), an opportunity we wouldn’t otherwise have had, had we not been here. Ultimately, it was a satisfying victory which we achieved without some of our international players like Dan Parks, Kelly Brown, Dougie Hall and John Barclay."

Glasgow Warriors: Colin Shaw; Lome Fa’atau, Hefin O’Hare, Daryl Gibson, Chris Kinloch (Edinburgh Accies); Colin Gregor, Sam Pinder; Justin Va’a, Eric Milligan, Ed Kalman, Al Kellock CAPTAIN, Opeta Palepoi, Dan Turner, Calum Forrester, Richie Vernon

Substitutes used: Kevin Tkachuk, Pat McArthur (Ayr), Jon Welsh, Greg Francis (Glasgow Hawks), John Beattie, Mark McMillan, Ruaridh Jackson, Andrew Henderson, Max Evans, David Whiteford (Melrose)

Kelly Brown, Dan Parks and John Barclay not ready to play - a week behind in preseason after Argentina exertions; James Eddie & Fergus Thomson on the operating table; Stortoni maybe still with Argentina - not sure? Apparently 33 guys are out there and will play over the 2 games so expect to see another 8 guys who didn't play v Castres featuring in the next game

Ah bonjour! I just wondered why neither the Geral nor the Hootsmon has a report on the match? Does anyone know? Do our two "quality" broadsheets not give a stuff about our rugby any more? Such a shame... Je vais porter mon monteau...

    It's reported in the Herald.

    Neither did L'Equipe...

Simply put match reprts would not increase the readership enough to justify the cost of sending a writer.

As David Kelso has been attributed then it was probably a local agency writer who sent in the copy.

We'll get a report up here as soon as possible... we're currently en route from Millau to Camarès, and the wine prevents coherent prose.

The bridge is stunning. We took half a day photographing it from all angles, it's amazing!
