August 23, 2012Glasgow Warriors 6 - 15 Exeter ChiefsFriendly match played at Millbrae on Thursday August 23rd 2012 | No comments
![]() Duncan Weir kicked Glasgow's only points Glasgow's final pre-season match ended in disappointment as they went down 15-6 to Exeter Chiefs at Millbrae tonight. Exeter held the upper hand in the first-half but the visitors were frustrated by some good defensive work From Glasgow. Both teams missed penalty opportunities before Duncan Weir was on target to give the Warriors a 3-0 lead at the interval. In the second period the Chiefs went ahead with hooker Whitehead driving over from close range for an unconverted try. A second Weir penalty on 56 minutes gave the lead back to the Warriors but the fly-half missed with another two chances to extend their lead. Sustained Exeter pressure saw finally told when Hanks crossed from five metres out. Steenson added the extras before closing out the game with a penalty. Glasgow coach Gregor Townsend said: "I was very pleased with the effort, particularly in defence, and the understanding is coming in how we want to play. Obviously, you want to win, but it’s about winning next week and right now the focus is on preparing so that we are at our best to beat Ulster when the league starts. "I was really pleased with the captain's lead of Finlay Gillies and the development players Fraser Thomson, Adam Ashe, Sean Kennedy and George Hunter. We've improved with each game, and training game, in pre-season so I'm looking forward to next week." The Warriors play their first RaboDirect PRO12 game of the new campaign, against Ulster at Ravenhill on Friday 31 August.
