September 03, 2021Glasgow Warriors 7 - 12 Newcastle FalconsFriendly match played at Scotstoun on Friday September 3rd 2021 | No comments
Sione Tuipulotu had a first run out in Glasgow colours Supporters were back in Scotstoun for the first time in 559 days to watch Glasgow Warriors take on Newcastle in a pre-season challenge match. Two late tries from Newcastle saw them to the win after Duncan Weir had marked his return to Scotstoun with a try to give Glasgow the lead at the break. Newcastle drew level after 65 minutes when Callum Chick intercepted on halfway, and made it all the way to the line. Will Haydon-Wood converted to make it 7-7. Warriors passed up opportunities to edge ahead and with the clock inside the final minute, Newcastle's George Wacokecoke broke clear to touch down in the left corner. The conversion was missed and the final whistle sounded. Stafford McDowall and Sione Tuipulotu impressed in the Glasgow midfield but there will be concerns as Ratu Tagive was forced off with a suspected broken jaw. Glasgow coach Danny Wilson was relatively pleased by the performance if not the result. "The first thing is it's brilliant to have the fans here, and brilliant to have an atmosphere in the ground," the head coach said. "I was a little bit disappointed in that last try for the result not to go our way. I thought the amount of opportunities we created, especially in the first 50 minutes - we've got to put some of those away. On another day we will. We were a little bit rusty in a pre-season friendly, but there were lots of encouraging things and we got lots of contact under our belt ready for the next game."
