Glasgow players are doing their bit to help develop the district's most promising youngsters.

Calvin Howarth has been helping to coach the Glasgow squad preparing for next month's district under-16 tournament and cross-border fixtures. Sixteen of Calvin's colleagues have been engaged in coaching and one-to-one mentoring of players in the Glasgow rugby academy.

"I'm really delighted our players are so much involved in mentoring and coaching," said Hugh Campbell. "They've all responded with enthusiasm to this development."

"The professional players' involvement has taken various forms, including watching the academy players in matches, holding skills and position-specific sessions, and simply giving advice when needed," Stevie Gemmell, the Glasgow rugby academy manager, explained.

Joe Naufahu is among the willing 16, with commitment to the academy programme despite having had to concentrate on his own rehabilitation from a serious knee injury.

I'm sure lots of this kind of thing goes on. It should be publicised more!
