Joe Beardshaw and Andy Kelly to leave

Joe Beardshaw has surprisingly not been offered a new contract at Glasgow
Lock forward Joe Beardshaw has been released by Glasgow in their end-of-season clear-out.

The former England Under-21 and Wasps player did not earn a new contract after a two-year stint at Hughenden, and some great recent form.

"Leaving Glasgow is a huge blow because I have thoroughly enjoyed my time with the squad," said Joe. "I felt I had been performing pretty consistently since the home Heineken Cup clash with Toulouse - but at the end of the day there was no deal for me.

"I am not certain at this stage where my rugby future lies. There are one or two things in the pipeline, but nothing is set in stone. All I can say is that I am likely to be moving to somewhere in the British Isles."

Also being released is prop forward Andy Kelly who has been at Glasgow since the 2002-2003 season.

Very disappointed and surprised to see Joe is not to receive a new contract. Best wishes from all, I'm sure, to both Joe and Andy for the future.

Sorry to see them go, especially Joe, who has played well for Glasgow and recently scored some excellent tries.

However, these guys, who must have kown they were unlikely to be having their contracts renewed, have continued to perform well for their team, and have been impressively professional to the last.

Best of luck to them all for next season.

i think it is a disgrace how these guys have been treated. joe has been first choice all year and they fob him off for some guy who can't even make the ulster 22 on regular weekends. he is a guy who has been there and done it. with the last of senior players you need people like him in the side.

last count...hall sacked. millard sacked. kerr sacked. kelly sacked. maculure sacked. dearlove sacked. beardshaw sacked. Please explain to me when the current coaches have either signed or re-signed these guys why do they sack them. surely it is the coaches that are at fault?

Hall,Kerr, Maclure and Dearlove Sacked???? To be honestI didn't realise that those were the circumstances. Fair to say a gentle push has been given.....for the likes of Hall - WHY??? we are not exactly fallinng over experienced players in that position. Like him or loathe him (as the guy I frequently stand next to at Hughenden clearly and very vocally does)surely its better than nothing. Better the devil you know.....

Hall, Kerr, MacLure, Dearlove - sacked? Who says so? Neither the official site nor this site have said they are leaving...but if so it's probably because they can't be gauranteed a 1st XV slot...next season's team is looking like this
Shaw; R Lamont, A Craig, A Henderson, Roberts; Parks, Beveridge;
Tkachuk,Lawson, Murray E, Hamilton, Turner, Swindall, Petrie, McFadyen;
That leaves the following for the bench of Barrow, Hinton, Howarth, Pinder and Morrison; Prescott, Thomson, Wilson, Barker and Beattie.
Personally I'm a big Rory K fan, but he hasn't really done for 18 months, so the coaches may feel it is time to move him on. If Scott Barrow has re-signed, why do we need another utility back like MacLure? Dearlove staying simply slows up the development of John Beattie...the one that is a bit mysterious is Andy Hall - maybe he wants to go if he can't be gauranteed a starting spot ahead of Craig Hamilton and Dan Turner. Nobody has mentioned Lee Harrison...is he staying or going?

As far as I know, there has been nothing official said about Rory Kerr, Gareth Maclure or Paul Dearlove. I understand Lee Harrison is expected to stay next season.

to be fair hally must have seen it coming. he hasn't started since december. and they had already signed hamilton. I'm not questioning the quality of the players but why re-sign a player and then sack him with a year to go when you have no money and have to pay the said player out? I think harrisons days will be numbered they paid off kelly because it was the cheaper option!

I understand there's been no "official word" on some goings on some players who have "flown the nest" as of Monday morning...yes Monday morning this week!

My previous and current info on the Glasgow player scenario has come from two or three various sources within the game...not one of them a Glasgow source though...makes you wonder!

The same organisation who really couldn't give four XXs about keeping their supporters informed in player activity will be on about buying those season tickets for next season soon though!

Most of the players i speak to say the day to day running of the side and the man management is a disgrace. Hugh hides from players to save giving them an answer, and lies to others telling them they are competing with a team mate for a contract and then releases both of them. I really feel sorry for guys who want to stay here are playing well and are told they are in the driving seat so why look elsewhere then get told there not required. we as fans are hard done by but so are the players!

That's what I mean on the whole though! The players are being treated like something brought in on the sole of a shoe!

I know three players who were told they had a future with Glasgow, two of whom were talking to teams South of the Border only to see them go back on the talks with the English clubs....

then be told 48 hours later he was being released by Glasgow!

Needless to say the two players have been told where to stick their contract talks with the English clubs!

The Nathan Ross situation is a diagrace too...the "pro people" should be ashamed of themselves for the disgraceful way they have treated others in the same game.

I don't think I'll be following much pro rugby next season. I'm pretty pissed off about the way fellow players are being treated in the supposed "pro days" in Scottish Rugby.

You are correct the nathan ross case was a disgrace. How could Hugh campbell tell him he was needed back in Scotland, Nathan leaves his dying fathers bedside to return to scotland only to be told ten days later he is to be released. In the mean time his father passes away. Hugh Campbell you are a bumbling fool with not an ounce of dignity. And yet the powers that be believe him to be a good coach. ask the players.

Exactly!

Where's the Iain Morrison, John Beattie reports about things involving disgraceful and disgusting treatment of employees like this within Scottish Rugby?

To think people involved in the cog are getting rewarded with a "wee pretendy" coaching shot with the big boys in the National setup too...Disgraceful!

you boys are starting to get the picture--soccer and rugby league have been dealing with this for over a century
ask Rob Ackerman
