As a teenager, Christopher Henderson Black enjoyed victories against the Welsh in two successive seasons.
First, while a pupil at Merchiston Castle School, he was in the Scottish team who won the 1994-95 schools’ international at Goldenacre by 20-18, and the following season, when he was with Watsonians, he was scrum half in the 19-11 victory over the Welsh in the under-18 international at the West of Scotland club’s ground, Burnbrae.
In all, he played in four schools internationals in 1994-95, and the following season, a month before the Burnbrae success, he led the under-18 Scots to victory against their Italian contemporaries in Mirano, near Padua. He had two successive seasons in the national under-19 team, first when the Scots made their world junior championship debut in 1996 in Bucharest and then when that tournament was contested in Italy.
While still with Watsonians, he made his debut for Glasgow Caledonians (now Glasgow Rugby) in the 52-28 win against Cross Keys at Hughenden in September 2000, and he joined the professional team as a contracted player this season.
