Barry Alan Irving, who is in his third season with Glasgow Rugby, had a full set of scores with a try, two conversions, a penalty goal, and a drop goal for Scotland in the under-21 international against Wales at Caerphilly in March 2000.
In all, he played in nine under-21 internationals – six in season 1999-2000 and three in the SANZAR tournament in Auckland, New Zealand, the following summer.
As an indication of his versatility he played four of those under-21 internationals at full back and five at stand-off. More recently, he made his Scotland A debut as a replacement against New Zealand at McDiarmid Park, Perth, in November 2001.
His introduction to representative rugby for Scotland was as stand-off in under-18 internationals against Spain and Wales in 1997-98. At that time he was still with his original club, Sevenoaks, but the following season he joined London Scottish, making a try-scoring debut against Saracens four days before his nineteenth birthday. He joined Glasgow Caledonians (now Glasgow Rugby) for season 1999-200.
Barry qualifies for Scotland through his father, who was born near Canonbie, Dumfriesshire.
