Eddie joined Glasgow Warriors from Canberra Vikings on a four-month trial. his contract wasn't renewed by Glasgow and he turned out for Ayr in the BT Premiership.
The 25-year-old New Zealand-born winger was a revelation last season for Canberra with 12 tries and the team's best back award. After his impressive debut season, the small but exceptionally quick McLaughlin was awarded a training contract with ACT Brumbies for the 2005 Super 12 season. McLaughlin had played with Bay of Plenty in New Zealand.
