Gordon Reid has retired from pro rugby
Former Glasgow Warriors prop Gordon Reid has announced his retirement from professional rugby.

The Scotland international played the majority of his club career with Warriors where he was hugely popular figure with supporters. He made 113 appearances for Warriors and played a key role in Glasgow's march to the 2015 Guinness PRO12 title in Belfast. He also had spells at London Irish, Northampton Saints and Wasps. Reid played club rugby with Ayr and Marr, Super6 with Ayrshire Bulls.

Reid made his senior Scotland debut in 2014 against the USA and would go on to play 41 times for his country, including seven appearances at both the 2015 and 2019 World Cups. While with Ayr, Reid was selected for Scotland's club international squad.

In November 2021, he joined Wasps on a short-term deal from Marr RFC and started both of the Premiership Cup games in November against Newcastle Falcons and Leicester Tigers before arriving from the bench in the Gallagher Premiership defeat to Gloucester.

"Before I retired from professional rugby I had one wish," he wrote. "My wish was to play one last game in remembrance of my dad who passed away in March 2020. I was able to fulfill this wish playing with the Wasps last year and now I can happily close the chapter of my life.

"Rugby has given myself and my family so so much over the years and I have loved every minute of it. I have visited places that I never would have dreamed of visiting and met people who have taught and inspired me so much.

"I want to express my sincere gratitude to all my friends and family for supporting me through the good times, the s*** times and the times where I just needed a good kick up the backside!

"Thanks to all the supporters and fans who cheered us all on when we won and believed in us when we lost. Thanks to the coaches who tried to help me understand the game of rugby and how to better my game; to the strength and conditioning coaches for continually beasting me; to the dietitians for putting me in fat club and getting me off the Irn Bru and lastly to physio and background staff, thanks for making life so much easier.

"To all the boys I have been lucky enough to play with past and present - it has been a pleasure to share the field with you all through blood, sweat and tears. It has also been great fun during our training and downtime!

"I always believe that you should never forget where you come from and never forget the people that help you along the way and get to where you are. I will never forget the old boys back at Ayr, where it all began. I want to say a special thanks to my family; to my beautiful wife Marissa and my two amazing daughters Emerson and Roan, I couldn’t have gotten through the time away from home if I hadn’t had the support of them; to my mum, dad and family for their unwavering support and unconditional love; to Sandy Service for always being there for me and keeping me grounded throughout the years. Peace out, Gordy x"
