Cummings makes the line-out calls on the pitch but he's also tasked with helping to develop Glasgow's next generation of locks in Alex Samuel, Max Williamson and Jare Oguntibeju.
"I'm getting old now I've turned 28!" Cummings told Scotland Rugby News. "But I think we've got a good crop of young players coming through.
"Obviously with Richie leaving, we're probably a bit light in the second row at the moment, I get all that. But I think we've got quality players coming through. Even someone like Jare, he's so raw, but he has the capabilities to become unbelievable.
"Same if you look at Max and Alex, They've already established themselves as international players. There are three young guys that are all between 22 and 24-odd that can come through and take this club to a different level.
"It is great to see them push on so far. Obviously my role is to try and bring them on and try and help them as much as I can."
Oguntibeju showed up well in his debut against Scarlets on Friday night and Cummings believes the 22-year-old has a bright future.
"He played really well," he admitted. "He said he was a bit tired towards the end of the game, but it's the first time I've seen him play that long in a long time.
"We've seen what he can do around the pitch and training, which is really impressive. He'll see himself, he's still learning some of those nuts and bolts of doing parts of the pro game, but he's picking them up so quickly.
"I think over the next year he's just going to keep climbing. I thought he played really well this weekend and hopefully when he gets his next chance, whenever that is, he's just going to keep climbing with it."
