Glasgow Warriors 42 - 10 Benetton

United Rugby Championship match played at Scotstoun on Friday September 27th 2024 | No comments

Rory Darge went over for a try and had another ruled out
Glasgow Warriors secured their first bonus-point win of the season with a 42-10 win over Benetton at Scotstoun Stadium.

Warriors crossed for six tries in a comfortable victory with Adam Hastings adding two conversions and Duncan Weir knocking over four.

Kyle Steyn and Matt Fagerson grabbed first-half tries for the hosts, with Franco Smith's side running away with the match in the second half as Rory Darge, Jamie Dobie, Steyn and Euan Ferrie crossed the whitewash.

Benetton's cause wasn't helped by Scott Scarfton's 33rd-minute red card and yellow cards for Paolo Odogwu and Riccardo Favretto. The Italian's only try came from Micro Spagnolo with Jacob Umaga adding the conversion and a penalty in the defeat.

Glasgow head coach Franco Smith told Premier Sports:

"We never talked much about the loss (against Ulster) last week. A lot of the players had their first outing in contact environment so we took a lot of heart from the performance.

"Tonight we asked for progression and in most areas we saw that. It was an important step for us.

"It's the start of the season, little timing errors [at the lineout]. We'll have a look at adjusting, but I'm not disappointed with that. We missed opportunities, but I'm still happy with the general performance.

"This first block before the Autumn Test series is going to be important to find feet. We will take lessons from tonight; I'm happy with the win."

Glasgow captain Kyle Steyn told Premier Sports post-match, starting with the injury he picked up:

"It's just above the foot. I'll go and see the physios now and we'll see what's up. Hopefully it's nothing.

"It was massive. We started really well last week, but we said during the week, if we didn't respond then how we played last week would mean nothing.

"I back myself to be good in all areas and have all bases covered."
