Glasgow's Jason White was named in third place in the Famous Grouse Player of the season poll. Journalists vote for their top performing Scotland player after every match and Edinburgh's Simon Taylor secured first place in their poll.

He succeeds his club colleague, Scott Murray, who took the honour last year.

Chris Paterson, also of Edinburgh, took second place, Andy Craig fourth and Kenny Logan fifth. White is suffering from a dead leg and may miss Glasgow Pro Cup match with Edinburgh at Hughenden on Friday (ko 7.30pm). The big forward has been linked with a move to play his rugby with Zurich Premiership Sale Sharks next season.
