Proudfoot back in step for Scotland

Matt Proudfoot joined the Scotland squad in Durban as they prepared for the first of two Tests, against South Africa, next Saturday.

The South African-born prop who won three caps for Scotland in 1998, helped out at scrummage practice yesterday.

Injuries, particularly to Tom Smith, have left McGeechan's squad short on front-row numbers, especially for a full scrummage session. Proudfoot has been in good form after returning to play in the Super 12 with the Bulls.

Proudfoot is on the verge of a return to Scotland via a deal with Glasgow. It is understood that a deal that will bring the player back to Scotland is close to completion.

Glenn Metcalfe played a full part in training after sustaining a shoulder knock while scoring a try against the Barbarians last week.
