"It was terrible for Graeme because he was under so much pressure from the start with us not getting them out of the way and giving him clean ball. (Colin) Charvis and their back row were coming right through over the ruck and putting him under pressure."
Despite being one of the brighter performers in attack, Metcalfe has come in for criticism over his choice of footwear. His new white boots seemed to cause him to slip on several occasions, putting him under pressure, but he remained defiant.
"They are the same boots as I wear normally but just in white," he said. "The only difference is that underneath I have got blades in them as well as the studs.
"I don't blame them. It was a wrong stud choice if anything, and if I get another crack, I will wear them again, though maybe with longer studs.
"I have developed a fairly thick skin over the years and I will do what I want. I will wear what I want. It's just a bit of fun."
