Former Worcester and Orrell utility back Scott, has come into the squad on a one-year contract whereas the 21-year-old Rory, younger brother of Sean has signed a short-term full-time contract.
Scott played as a trialist in Glasgow's two warm-up matches against Sale Sharks last month, scoring a debut try little more than a minute after he took the field as a replacement in the first of those games at Hughenden two weeks ago. Rory played against Leeds Tykes in the first of Glasgow's warm-up matches as well as the Hughenden game against Sale.
"Scott is a talented player, and he has certainly made an impact in the two games he has played for us," David Jordan, Glasgow's chief executive, said in welcoming Barrow's addition to the ranks.
"He is an important signing for us when so many of our outside backs are international players," the chief executive added. No fewer than six Glasgow backs are in the Scotland elite training squad announced earlier today.
"Rory Lamont has come north after a sojourn in Northampton Saints' academy. His ambition was to emulate his brother and gain a full-time contract with Glasgow," David Jordan explained.
"Rory had started training with Glasgow Hawks with the intention that playing for Scotland's leading club side would bring him to the attention of the Glasgow coaches. When Sean introduced his brother to us and he joined in with our training we soon recognised his potential, which was displayed when he played for Glasgow in our warm-up games against Leeds and Sale. Our offer of a short-term contract to Rory has come a lot sooner that he would have expected, and we are grateful to Glasgow Hawks, who had gone to some lengths to complete his registration with the SRU."
"I'm delighted to have Scott and Rory on board," Hugh Campbell, Glasgow's head coach, said. "Scott performed well in the warm-up games, and it’'s good to be able to add a quality player to the squad. Rory has shown great promise and potential."
Scott had left Orrell to join Rotherham for this season, but he had to look elsewhere for full-time rugby when the Yorkshire club struck financial troubles. "I really welcomed the trial with Glasgow," Scott said, "and I was delighted with the offer of a contract. Everyone has been so helpful and friendly here."
Scott is a former rugby league product who captained Britain's under-19 team while he was with the St Helens club. He was also a Super League winner with St Helens, but he later switched to Rugby Union, playing for Worcester and Orrell before joining Rotherham.
Scott is the only uncapped player among the six outside backs in Glasgow's team for the opening Celtic League match against Connacht at Galway Sportsground on Saturday (4 September). In fact, with Scott making up the midfield trio with Dan Parks and Andrew Henderson, Glasgow can afford to leave another of their capped outside backs, Graeme Morrison, on the bench.
Dan Parks will be having his first appearance of the season for Glasgow, having been rested for the three warm-up games, whereas Scott will be making his Celtic League debut. So will another of Glasgow's new signings, Kevin Tkachuk, Canada's captain. Jon Petrie returns to lead the team from No.8 after missing the match against Sale at Edgeley Park last week.
For the first time Glasgow are chartering an aircraft for their journey, flying in and out of Galway on Saturday. The match will kick off at 2.30pm. Glasgow's team:
