Japan opened the scoring at the 19-minute mark of the first half and although both sides had their chances, it was the only scoring in the half. Canada 0, Japan 3.
Derek Daypuck brought Canada all square with the Cherry Blossoms 12 minutes into the second half on a successful penalty goal. Canada 3, Japan 3.
Brodie Henderson, earning his first cap in a fifteens jersey quickly followed with a try at the 18-minute mark to put the Canadians ahead, and with a successful Daypuck conversion, Canada was up 10-3, a lead they would not relinquish.
Another Canadian earning his first cap added to the Canadian lead at the 37-minute mark of the second half as Dean Van Camp completed Canada’s scoring on the day with his first try to stretch the lead to 15-3.
Japan fought hard in the late stages of the match, adding a converted try to bring them within five points, but the Canadian defense held strong to earn the victory in winning the Super Cup by a final score of 15-10.
Canada will look to build on their efforts in Japan as they get set to face Wales in Toronto on June 11th, before traveling to the Churchill Cup in Edmonton from June 19th to the 26, and then wrapping up their summer schedule with a match against Argentina on July 2nd in Calgary.
