Rob Dewey joins Glasgow

Rob Dewey has joined Glasgow Warriors
Scotland international centre, Rob Dewey, will return home from Ulster this summer having signed a three-year-deal with Glasgow Warriors.

Rob, who was part of the Plate winning Scotland 7s squad at the Rugby World Cup Sevens in Dubai, has scored 20 points in 13 appearances for the senior Scotland team.

On his forthcoming return to Scotland, Rob said: “I’m looking forward to returning to Scotland and joining Glasgow.

“Glasgow have been on the up for the last three seasons now and their win over Toulouse in France back in January really shows that they are a team to be reckoned with. It’s too good an opportunity to miss out on.

“It’s going to be tough to earn a place in a very competitive Glasgow back-line, however, I’m looking forward to the challenge.

“I also believe in the importance of being in Scotland, in front of the national coach, for getting myself back into contention for future Scotland honours.”

Glasgow Warriors head coach, Sean Lineen, added: “I’ve always liked the way Rob plays. He has a very big physical presence.

“With Chris Cusiter joining the club in the summer and Thom and Max Evans re-signing until after the next World Cup, Rob is yet another exciting addition to a pretty special looking Glasgow back-line.”

Rob originally played for Edinburgh from 2005-2007 before accepting an offer to join Ulster. He will return to Scotland to become a Warrior.

In addition to his 13 appearances at Test level, Dewey has represented the Scotland ‘A’ team, the Scotland 7s team as well as Scotland U18, U19 and U21.

The 6ft 2in, 17st centre was named Scotland’s MVP (most Valuable Player) at the 2008 Barclays Churchill Cup in North America having played in all three games on the tour. He found the score-sheet in the second pool match against Argentina en route to the final against England Saxons in Chicago.

I hope Glasgow will have some guys up front to win the ball and serve the back line.
If not the back line will defend bravely and the wingers will be frozen.

Not sure this is a good signing, to the best of my knowledge, any rugby he has been playing recently has been at club level.

Disagree there. Have you forgotten how good he looked with Edinburgh and his games for Scotland where he seemed to be developing well? Yes, he's been out of favour at Ulster (it must have seemd the right move to him at the time and they rated him to sign him).. let's hope a move to Glasgow will be what he needs to kick start things again. We need a big, strong centre to compete for place, cover, rotate squad etc.. we could have done with him at Ravenhill!

Yes, he did look like a good player, but he has done absolutely nowt since joining Ulster, we should be signing players that are either "up there" or are on the up, not players who have a big question mark hanging over them, and that is what Dewey has. When was the last time he played well???????

He's a good player but we need Forwards more than backs right now. We already have two big Centers in Morrison and Henderson. Where is Henderson these days? Perhaps he's away?

Andy broke a finger during the Toulouse game. Think Dewey will be a strong member of the squad, he's bound to have a point to prove after struggling in Belfast.

i would rather we signed a promising scottish layer eager to represent his country than a foreign 'past it' player who is looking for money and coaching practice!!

Hang on a minute....they have just signed another centre...So they have Morrison,Henderson,Max Evans..All have played for Scotland...How can having one or more of either of these guys sitting on a bench be good for Scottish Rugby. Someones going to miss out..They should all be starting regularly...increasing the competition for a scotland jersey...not a glasgow jersey.

I think this is a good signing. All 4 centres will not be on scotland duty at the same time, and my perception of how have done in the ML during the 6N is that our midfield defence has been poor because we have a winger (Piosek) and a stand-off/fullback (Jackson) both playing out of position as centres.

Agreed ..and, if he gets back into the Scotland team, we won't have a problem supporting him now as a Glasgow boy!! (and that may release our other centres to play for Glasgow..if they are still here!)
