Thom is in pre-season training where bulking up has been the order of the day as the Glasgow players are put through an intense course of weight-training to build up their strength for the new campaign.
Thom told the Glaswegian: "I want to bulk up in order to add power to my game because I would like to give the opposition something else to worry about apart from my pace.
"I will be careful though not to add weight to the detriment of my pace but it would give me an extra option in certain situations if there's not a gap for me to run into and exploit.
"We all bulk up at the start of pre-season and it gradually drops off again once the season proper gets underway.
"It is a bit of a struggle at first as the coaches launch us into a fully intensive weights session.
"Heavy loading, power weights you name it and one or two of the boys have been chucking up all over the shop.
"I haven't yet which is strange as I'm usually one of the first but that happens because the coaches give us very little time in between exercises.
"The reason behind that is to build up our stamina so that when we're in a tough match which is close and the weather is terrible, we have enough stored up energy to last the course."
Thom's brother Max is recovering from a knee injury, but he's desperate to get back in action with Glasgow and, with the 2011 World Cup just around the corner, Scotland.
Max's fine form for the Warriors last season earned him a first Scotland cap against Canada in the Autumn Internationals and a Six Nations role but he maintains he cannot afford to rest on his laurels in Andy Robinson's new regime.
He told glasgowwarriors.org: “I had a good Six Nations last year in terms of getting my place there but it’s still not cemented. I’ve got Ben Cairns breathing down my neck as we’re both competing for that position and it’ll be the same right up until the World Cup which is great, that’s what you want.
“You don’t want to feel like you can be slacking off during your club games. You’ve got to perform during those club games and that’s what I want to be doing anyway, but there’s another incentive there to be playing your best rugby with your club.
“If you’re not playing well for your club then you’re not going to be in a Scotland jersey so it’s a real drive.”
“I love playing for Glasgow and I love winning with Glasgow. Looking at some of the wins we had last season, it shows there is nothing to stop us putting on performances like that every game.
“If we can win with Glasgow then that’ll increase my chances of cementing that Scotland place; so first and foremost I’m eager to win with Glasgow.
“I’m itching to get back from this injury. I can’t wait to be fully fit and fully confident of what I can potentially achieve and get really stuck in.”
