Thom looking for improvement

Thom Evans thinks competition for places can improve Glasgow's fortunes
Thom Evans thinks a strengthened squad will improve Glasgow's fortunes in the upcoming season.

Chris Cusiter leads a number of new faces in the Warriors squad and Thom expects results to follow.

"I've no doubt we'll bury some of our demons against some of the weaker teams this year because we're a lot stronger as a squad," Thom told BBC Scotland.

"We're not going to make the same mistakes again.

"I want to take off from where I left off last season and just keep giving everything on the pitch and performing the best I can.

"If you're not performing for your club then you're not going to get a look in at national level.

"There's a lot of competition for places, especially in the backs. It's really good to have that depth in the squad."

It's all very well the likes of Mr Evans & Co of our back division sounding off about new strength etc and it is good to see but when are we going to hear some news about our forwards? If they haven't been living in the gym beefing up like maniacs all summer then more than one head should roll.

I remember the beer bellies at the begining of last season and was shocked at how unfit our forwards looked. The rest of the season went accordingly.

I just hope we see a heavier, tougher and more muscular pack this season. If not, we should be looking elsewhere for some players AND staff...

Nice to see the cynics are ready to take a swipe at any show of hope from the team, Which beer bellies are you talking of.

It is the summer and the team are hard at it in pre season training, some of us are looking forward to the new season, some of us hope the team does well, I get the feeling you Sunday are related to Private Fraser from dads army " We are all doomed"

Our forwards lacked consistency and aggression especially at the breakdown last season, lets give them the oppotunity to show improvement.

I don't think I'm being all that cynical really Tighthead. Our Forwards were not up to the task last season. They haven't been performing properly for quite some time. Opportunities have come and gone and yet here we are, with a bunch of top rate brand new Backs. Our Forwards do indeed need to improve. They had better work their arses off in preseason training because if they show up with the same attitude as we have become accustomed to over the past few seasons we'll get humped. Again.

I'm not going to name any particular players and I am 100% behind this team but if it isn't functioning something has to change. It isn't enough for the players, staff and fans to "hope" the team does well. What does that even mean?

I can only speak for the Glasgow players who took part in the IRB Nations Cup. They showed very high standards of fitness in extreme conditions.

I suppose Sunday5 is the ultimate fine specimen of fitness and procurement that all pro rugby players throughout the world have to aspire to become?

Indeed I am not Marty. But then I am not a professional athlete. Fitness is the absolute minimum we should expect and demand from our players. Skill and ability are different for all but fitness should be a given.

This is really fairly obvious Marty but thanks for chipping in.

Why are we giving Sunday a hard time when all he's doing is telling it like it is. Simple exercise, have a look at Low beside Murray or Kellock beside OConnell or Beattie beside Powell etc etc Its men and boys. The problem is obvious to (some of) us and obvious to Scotland - its been made public that certain Glasgow forwards have to improve their physique and physicality to get selected. To date they haven't but at least we can carry on blaming Edinburgh bias for that
