Things moving fast for Peter Horne

Peter Horne was a stand-out player in Glasgow's two French tour games and aims to follow that up with another top display against Doncaster next week.

The Warriors take on the Knights at Castle Park next Friday as the preparations for the new season gather pace.

And the former Howe of Fife and West of Scotland player admits he is still pinching himself at the speed of his progress to the pro ranks.

Peter told the Evening Times: "This time last year Johnny Beattie, the coach at West of Scotland, had just signed me to play in Premiership One.

"Then I got the opportunity to become involved with Warriors and now I have a full-time contract and it is all pretty hard to believe.

"At times I still have to pinch myself, but now that I am involved full-time I have already noticed the improvement in my play. Coach Sean Lineen has had me staying behind after training to work on my handling and also my lines of running and, although I was originally a full-back and playing at 12 is still new to me, I am loving every minute of it.

"Over in France I got 40 minutes against Stade Rochelais and then the full 80 against Clermont Auvergne and that was massive.

"Now we start the build-up to next Friday's friendly at Doncaster Knights and follow that up with the home game against Wasps a fort-night today - and these are going to be two massive games.

"Although Graeme Morrison will start the season as first-choice No.12, I am going to do everything I possibly can to give myself a chance.

"Once you get that taste of action and the wee bit of success I had over in France it just makes you hungrier."

I hope Peter gets some game time this year because apart from anything else he's a top class place kicker. We'll need that - had we converted more of our chances last year we'd have done a lot better.

He was great for West last year - I'm not surprised he's playing at centre as he looked if anything better there than at 15. He even covered for Conor Davis at 10 occassionally and made a good job of that.

He was a bit raw but then he was only 19, so working with the pro set up should bring him on.

Competition for the 12 slot will be tough though, not only G-Dog but DTHVDM and Rob Dewey will be challenging.
