The 6ft 5in, 18st 4lb second row, who will join the Warriors in the summer from English Championship side Moseley, is Scottish-qualified through his maternal grandfather, Bill Morrison, from Perth.
Speaking ahead of Glasgow’s crunch match with the Scarlets which could determine their play-off seeding, he said: “It would be great if Glasgow could get a home play-off because I’ll be able to see a game live at Firhill. I’ll be up that weekend with my fiancée and two kids searching for a new house so it would be great for us to catch a game together.”
He also spoke today of his excitement to sign his first fulltime professional contract at an ambitious club like the Warriors.
“Firhill and the new training facility at Scotstoun are absolutely top drawer,” he continued, “so it’s fantastic for me to sign my first fulltime contract with such a professional club.
“It’s always been my ambition to play at as high a level as possible and I believe that Glasgow was a great option due to the appeal of playing in the Magners League and Heineken Cup – I now need to knuckle down and earn a place in what is a very competitive squad.
“Despite offers from the Guinness Premiership, I was attracted to playing in the Magners League where, instead of fighting against relegation, you’re playing to win.”
Warriors head coach Sean Lineen added: “Aly has impressed in the Championship. He’s a big lad and is a good ball carrying second row.
“He is Scottish-qualified and could be a real rough diamond so I’m looking forward to working with him.”
A latecomer to rugby, Aly previously excelled at football and basketball, playing for Stoke Steelers in Division Two of the National Basketball League.
Aly first played rugby with his hometown club Stafford before joining Stourbridge in 2005. He signed for his current club, Moseley, in 2008.
