Scott Wight offered two year deal

Scott Wight has been offered a pro deal
Melrose stand-off Scott Wight has been offered a two-year deal with Glasgow Warriors.

The Scotland club international trained with the Warriors earlier this month and now looks like joining up for next season's campaign. He's greed a two-year contract with Glasgow and is just awaiting the paperwork to close a deal.

"I have always wanted to play full-time rugby, and now I have the chance, and I don't want to go up to Glasgow and sit about," said Scott in the Scotsman. "After a wee holiday with the family, I want to get into pre-season, improve my fitness and skills, and push for game-time.

"With Ruaridh (Jackson] away to the World Cup probably and Duncan Weir needing a rest when he comes back from the Junior World Championship, I'm hoping I might get a chance in pre-season games, but who knows? I know there are quality players at Glasgow. I'll probably be the old experienced head!"

Worried this is forerunner to a departure...do we need jackson, weir, gregor and wight? When embra have...godman, who hasnt played for 6 months and.....paterson, with perhaps 6 months left....and....and....both blairs released....i smell a move for someone....

Would be surprised if anyone left this summer. Gregor will play at scrum half and Jackson will be at the world cup. so really only 2 fly halves for the 1st half of the season.

Expect jackson will leave at the end of next season hence wht Wight has been offered a two year deal.

This is good news. Ruaridh has not played as well as Dunc in any case, and we need some fresh blood to keep things ticking over. Edinburgh has Greig Laidlaw for 10 (he has played better at 10 than ANY Scottish player in the last year, and should be playing there in the RWC).
I think Pyrgos will feel a bit under-used, and I like his game. Anyway, I'm looking forward to seeing Cus and Dunc form a partnership at Glasgow next year...

There is the predictable bleating on the Scotsman website about how we are "getting" and Edinburgh aren't.

Short memories since Edinburgh at one time had 5 S/o's on their books and first pick of anyone else going!

However "for the good of the game" Weir or Jackson should be moved east?
Here's a thought....get your own!. Sean had to gamble on an inexperienced 10 plus a 19 year old in his first year as a pro when left high and dry by Parks departure.

Where was "the good of the game" then?

No sympathy for Embra over this. They had an outhalf crisis for years (called Phil Godman) and he was under their nose. They didn't offer him a proper deal and now they have a scrum half playing at 10. Go figure.

Anyway, I've wanted this guy to sign for Glasgow for a while now so I'm very happy it now seems to be happening.

What makes you think Edinburgh want ANY of these players

.. also what makes you think any of them would want to be shifted to Edinburgh by SRU?.. Are they not more likely now just to head off to England or France if they had an option there?!

I don't think they will, but they are all contracted to the SRU, not to Glasgow or Edinburgh. The SRU have the option, not the players. And its happened before -remember "I've always wanted to play for Glasgow" or something similar Ross Ford?

Of course, but the players always have the option if their agent finds an offer (provided they can get out of SRU contract or due for renewal). Yes, Ford never wanted to play for Glasgow specifically.. that was SRU spin, as you know!
