Glasgow return for Jason White?

Former Warrior Jason White has been linked with a return to Glasgow.

The former Scotland skipper, whose contract with Clermont expires at the end of this season, last played for Glasgow in 2003. He left Glasgow for Sale Sharks before moving to France in 2009.

While announcing his line-up for Saturday's match with Connacht, head coach Sean Lineen agreed that Jason White was a player who could do a job for the Warriors.

“He’s a fantastic player and he has been brilliant for Scotland,” said Sean. “You look at the quality and experience he has from being in France. He’s had a few injuries and has played for the run-on team and the back-up team [at Clermont] sometimes, but he has a huge amount of experience. He’s tough, he’s a leader, he’s Scottish, he’s a good lad and he’s been at Glasgow before.”

While Glasgow have a group of young and talented back-row players like Ryan Wilson, Robert Harley and Chris Fusaro they do lack experience in that area - a situation that could be compounded if Johnnie Beattie and John Barclay move on at the end of this season. Although Jason White is nearing the end of his career he could play a role in the development of the next generation of Warriors.

“If you look at the wider picture you recognise that it’s not just the coaches that help young players develop, but the players around them too,” Sean continued. “You need experienced players on the training paddock, in the analysis, and getting into good habits off the field. It’s about getting the balance right between promoting a young player and using players with experience.”
