Fede says Glasgow can build on top four finish

Federico Aramburu thinks Glasgow's future is bright with young players like Duncan Weir
Federico Aramburu says Glasgow can use their RaboDirect Pro12 campaign as a launchpad to even greater success next season.

The Warriors went down 19-15 to European champions Leinster in Saturday's play-off semi-final berth but Fede is confident that Glasgow will come back even more determined for success next season.

The Argentina international, whose appearance at the Royal Dublin Showgrounds on Saturday night was the last of his professional career, believes that the foundations laid by departing head coach Sean Lineen, along with the raft of new summer signings set to arrive at Scotstoun, will give new Warriors head coach Gregor Townsend a real opportunity to challenge for silverware.

Fede told the Evening Times: "Leinster are the best team in Europe, they are the Heineken Cup holders and they have made it back to the final to defend that trophy, but we gave it everything and by the end we had them rattled.

"I think the young guys will only learn and improve from playing in a game of that magnitude and intensity."

He went on: "When you look at the side there were so many young players like Stuart Hogg, Duncan Weir, Alex Dunbar and Chris Fusaro, to name but four, who are going to get better from such experiences.

"With the additions coming in over the summer like Sean Lamont, I think Gregor Townsend has a platform to build on towards success over the next two or three years. The players have had a taste of it without winning anything and that will make them even more determined next season.

"I have had two great years with Glasgow and what I will miss most will be the team spirit and camaraderie. Particularly this season we have had some great wins.

"Sean has done a great job with Glasgow Warriors and he deserves enormous credit for all the young players he has brought through over the last couple of years.

"Also, to be made captain for the Connacht game a fortnight ago will stay with me forever.

"Sean will be a very hard act for Gregor to follow."
