Plastic will do nicely for the Warriors

Rory Clegg is a fan of artificial pitches
Playing on a synthetic surface at Scotstoun next season has gone down well with the Glasgow squad.

Stand-off Rory Clegg has seen first hand the positive impact an artificial pitch can have, when playing for Newcastle Falcons and Oyonnax in France.

Speaking to glasgowwarriors.org, Rory said: "When I was at Newcastle they brought in an artificial pitch after one year. The grass pitch was quite similar to the Scotstoun grass in that it cut up quite easily.

"As soon as we got the artificial pitch the standard of rugby improved massively and we were able to play a lot more attacking rugby.

"There's obviously a lot of rain in Glasgow so having a consistently good pitch will enable us to play the way we want to week in week out, without having to worry about what the ground conditions are going to be like.

"It takes out that worry for a kicker as you know you'll get the same bounce of the ball every time and you won't slip.

"It gives you piece of mind that the pitch won't have an impact on the game.

"The pitch rose the standard of rugby at Oyonnax, but here at Glasgow the standard of play is already really high, so it's an exciting time."

Rory has played just the one game since returning to Scotstoun after his spell in France. He had planned to join the Warriors this summer, but he arrived a couple of months early to take on Leinster in March after the club's fly-halves became unavailable through injury and international selection.

Rory put in a man-of-the-match performance that night, helping secure a 12-6 win with the 26-year-old kicking all of Glasgow’s points.

Since then, he has picked up a few knocks, but he’s now targeting pre-season as his chance to impress ahead of the new term.

He said: "I had a run of injuries after the Leinster game so I've just been in the gym, swimming and doing rehab and physio to try and get myself back to full fitness.

"I want to get back playing as soon as possible as I want to stake my claim and be a positive influence in the squad."
