Thompson hoping for an opportunity to impress

Ross Thompson is expected to feature against Dragons
Glasgow's Ross Thompson says the time he has spent training with the Scotland's Six Nations squad is helping him stay upbeat in what's been a challenging campaign for the stand-off.

Thompson struggled with injury last season and his game-time has been limited so far this season, but he's expected to feature when Dragons come calling to Scotstoun on Saturday.

"It's been a challenging season for sure. I've probably not had as much game-time as I'd like - but I feel I'm still getting better as a player," Thompson told BBC Scotland .

"Once I get that opportunity I know I will be able to bring that onto the field. I'm looking to build.

"Obviously I was delighted to be part of the Scotland squad. It's such a good environment to be in, especially while Glasgow had two weeks off - it's nice to still be training and be involved.

"It's where you want to be as a rugby player and I've really enjoyed training the last two weeks. I'm hopefully trying to push for some game-time."

Thompson believes if Warriors can secure victories in their next couple of games - against Dragons and Benetton - they will be in good shape at the business end of the season.

"It's been a good season. All the games we have lost have all been from our own undoing - a couple of errors from us and we've allowed teams to sneak in," he added.

"We're just looking to build on it - these next two games are massive for us.

"If we can get two big wins then hopefully it can keep some momentum going into the tail end of the season."

Thompson praised the ethos behind the 'Club of Origin' fixture against Dragons on Saturday.

This round of URC matches will focus on the communities and people who helped launch the careers of the competition's players and coaches.

"I loved my time at Stewart's Melville. Some of my best mates are still good mates of mine now. I'll be wearing their socks this weekend and I'm really looking forward to it," he said.

"They'll [Dragons] be a dangerous team but you can't really look into their record too much.

"We've got to give them respect and we'll also just be focusing on us. If we can get everything right then we know we can get a good performance at Scotstoun."
