Good club man

Max Evans swapped the golf course for the rugby pitch (Victoria Sharpus-Jones/PSP Publishing Ltd)
Glasgow's Max Evans has been catching the eye on the rugby pitch but he knows his way around a golf course too.

Before joining Glasgow Warriors Max worked as a teaching professional at the Pinheiros Altos resort in Portugal where his father is director of golf.

But with brother Thom making an impact with Glasgow, Max asked Sean Lineen for a trial with the club. The rest is history with Max now playing alongside his brother for Glasgow and Scotland.

Max hasn't turned his back on golf as he points out in Bunkered: "Becoming a teaching pro again is definitely something I'd like to go back to. I've even started taking Chinese lessons in the event that I could maybe move there to teach and take advantage of its huge golf boom.

"Anything to do with golf would be great though. That might be golf course management, might be golf course architecture. I guess we'll just have to wait and see what the future brings. But, yes, for sure, I'm determined to get back into it eventually. It's only 'on hold' until such times as my body starts telling me it can't take rugby anymore."

Glasgow and Scotland supporters will be hoping Max won't be returning to golf any time soon, but luckily he can still get in some practice on the course: "I play with Dan (Parks) whenever I get a chance, and the two Argentinian boys, Bernardo Stortoni and Jose Maria Nunez Piossek, enjoy a round as well. In fact, Jose has been on at me to give him a lesson ever since he joined the team last summer."
