Cardiff Rugby 36 - 52 Glasgow Warriors

United Rugby Championship match played at Arms Park on Friday October 4th 2024 | No comments

Sione Tuipulotu's score gave Warriors the try bonus
Glasgow Warriors went over for eight tries in a thrilling URC encounter with Cardiff this evening.

Kyle Rowe and Tom Jordan scored two tries apiece with Jamie Dobie, Sione Tuipulotu, Huw Jones and Matt Fagerson also crossing the whitewash.

Jordan added five conversions to finish with a 20-point contribution while Duncan Weir also slotted a two-pointer off the kicking tee.

For Cardiff, Dan Thomas, Cameron Winnett, Ed Byrne, Mackenzie Martin and Ben Donnell dotted down with Callum Sheedy and Tinus de Beer (3) slotting conversions while De Beer also succeeded with a penalty.

Glasgow head coach Franco Smith said: "We made a nine changes this week and we're still pulling everyone together at the start of this season.

"You can't excuse some errors, but we showed some moments of individual brilliance to score a lot of points.

"We got rattled at one point in the second half, but I'd rather win that way than lose."

Player of the Match Sione Tuipulotu told Premier Sports: "I've got mixed feelings to be honest, I'm fearful to go in the changing room and face the coaches!

"I don't think we played that well. Duncan [Weir] and [Patrick] Schickers closed the game out for us when Cardiff were putting us under pressure. A good win but a bit disappointed un our performance.

"We weren't doing the things we talked about at half-time. They were applying a lot of pressure, making it hard for us to exit. We need to concentrate on that next week.

"[I'm expecting] the wrath! I'm sure the coaches will be okay but be disappointed we didn't follow through on the things we talked about through the week."

Tom Jordan, who went over for two tries, said: A bit hectic game to be honest. We were starved of possession and we got a few tries out of nothing.

"Cardiff did an awesome job. We're confident on our performance but a lot to work on and tidy up. It was probably awesome to watch but playing it was a bit helter-skelter.

"There's always points in the game where you have to wear it, and teams get a roll on. You've got to back your processes and we did enough tonight."

"Sione got us out of a lot of trouble today. To get that front foot ball makes it so easy to play. He played awesome tonight."
