White leads the way for Scotland

Scotland gave coach Ian McGeechan the perfect Six Nations send-off with a hard fought but entertaining victory over Italy at Murrayfield. Glasgow's Jason White led the way with a try after a typically powerful run from the big forward.

White had to depart the scene early in the second half through injury. Glenn Metcalfe saw a lot of the ball and had a few excellent runs while Gordon Bulloch looked more like his old self, with one beautiful flick pass to Kenny Logan catching the eye.

Scotland's other tries came from James McLaren, Kenny Logan and Chris Paterson who also had a good day with the boot. While Scotland still made mistakes it was encouraging to see them play with a lot more width than the previous matches and ball was moved from rucks with more speed.

Scotland struggled in the second-half, giving away possession far too easily. The 33-25 victory was welcome but Scotland will have to find a few more gears if they are to make an impact on the World Cup later this year.
