It's been quite a week for Cammy as he was also named in Scotland's 50-man preliminary squad for the World Cup in the autumn.
The Herald reports that Glasgow coach Hugh Campbell told the squad on Monday that Cammy would be their skipper.
"Cammy has been a tremendous influence and seems a natural leader," said Campbell. "On and off the field, he is very, very professional and I believe that has come across to what is a pretty young and inexperienced squad. Maybe because he has just come back to Scotland he has been reluctant to push himself forward but he has quietly said the right things at the right times."
Cammy told The Scotsman: "Being asked to be captain was a tremendous honour, especially when I'm in my first season with the club, and I'm delighted to take it on. And, now, getting back into a Scotland squad is another thrill."
It's a surprise that Cammy hasn't featured in the Scotland set-up since 2000 despite his tremendous for for Leeds in the Zurich Premiership.
"When you haven't been in a national squad for three years, it is very nice to be selected no matter how big the squad is, but I'm under no illusions about my prospects for the World Cup. I know that the selectors will have their team almost finalised in their minds, but at least it shows I’m in their thoughts again.
"It is nice to know I'm being considered, but I'm concentrating on what we are doing at Glasgow," he said. "That's one of the good things that seems to have changed. When we sat down to goal-setting for the season, everyone was focusing on what they could do for Glasgow rather than listing targets that involved playing for Scotland."
