Calum and Allan took along the Calcutta Cup, which Scotland won by beating England 18-12 during the Six Nations championship earlier this year. The GHA flanker and Hawks lock also offered rugby tips to children from the eight participating schools.
Pupils from Cleland, St Mary's, Holytown, Christ the King, Keir Hardie, Newarthill, St Teresa's and Knowetop primary schools were invited to the festival, organised by Dalziel Rugby Club.
Coaches from the National League side have been delivering blocks of four coaching sessions to youngsters at 18 schools across the district, in conjunction with Motherwell District Sports Council, who gained a £5000 lottery grant to fund the project, and North Lanarkshire Leisure.
After being introduced to the sport, some of the pupils were invited to take part in the participation festival where they played a series of mini-rugby games and were awarded a certificate of achievement; the rest of the schools involved will attend a similar event at the end of this month.
Sports council chair Joy O'Brien, of Wishaw, said in the Wishaw Press: "All of the children had a wonderful time and embraced the challenge of the mini games.
"The success of this development has been due to a number of partners working together, but special thanks have to be given to Roddy Thomson and all the Dalziel coaches."
