Sean hopes this is the start of something big for Glasgow
Sean Lineen was delighted in the aftermath of his side's historic 6-6 draw with Saracens on Friday.

"I've seen some pretty ugly games at Hughenden over the years and that was probably the ugliest - but from where I was standing, it was beautiful" he said.

That result, achieved on a quagmire of a pitch underfoot and in the midst of a deluge from above, assured the Warriors of a place in the quarter-finals of the European Challenge Cup.

"Hopefully, this is the start of something big for Glasgow," said Sean. "It would be great to have a team full of world-class players, but that is not going to happen at Glasgow. It is fantastic to have a group of guys that get on with each other and have pride in playing for each other," he said.

"I'm a big fan of team spirit and camaraderie and what you saw in that match was 15 guys willing to put everything that have towards the cause. As a coach, that was really uplifting to see.

"We were up against a scrummage that does damage to every team it plays against. They certainly hurt us when we lost down there in October - so we had a point to prove and I think we proved it well.

"I maybe wouldn't say we came out on top at the set-pieces, but we did not back down and it was a tremendous effort.

"I'm really proud of the forward pack and the way they dug in. And we defended with a lot of pride. It was really about standing up to them and having the right attitude - and we just did that."

The crowd on Friday night was 2,750, which is pretty small compared to the sorts of gates being registered elsewhere in Europe. But there was an electric atmosphere during a gripping encounter in which two Dan Parks penalties were cancelled out by two successful kicks from Glen Jackson. "The crowd was great and it was a big factor in our performance," said Sean.

"There had been a lot of speculation in the press during the build-up to this match about the pitch being water-logged and the game being moved. But we were desperate to play at Hughenden because we are starting to get a real atmosphere at our home games, so we pulled out all the stops to ensure the pitch was good to go."
