"It is nice to have my Glasgow team-mates John Beattie and John Barclay beside me for my first A cap because we've got a good blend and enjoy playing together," said Stevie in The Herald. "Hopefully that will be a real asset for the team."
Frank Hadden, Scotland's coach, has said everyone in the squad has a real chance of World Cup selection, making this, in effect, the start of the campaign, but Stevie rightly indicated that no-one dare get ahead of themselves.
"Last summer I was pretty disappointed at not going to the Churchill Cup, but I was really pleased with the way things went at Glasgow this season, particularly when I was getting a regular place towards the end of the season," he said.
"I was on cloud nine when I was told on Friday that I'd be playing this game, but I'm just looking to grab this opportunity and see what happens."
