Scott Forrest will be back in a Glasgow jersey
Glasgow Warriors have selected six Scotland Sevens internationals in their squad to play at the Chard Glasgow City Sevens at Dumbreck.

The Warriors have picked a nine-man squad to play at the event on Saturday (16 May), six of whom have represented the national sevens team on the IRB Sevens World Series this season.

Three of the six internationalists - Scott Forrest, Mike Adamson and Colin Shaw - will also be using the Glasgow event as vital preparation ahead of the final two events on the world stage in London (23 and 24 May) and Edinburgh (30 and 31 May).

Mike, who come the end of the season will have played on six of the eight legs of the IRB Sevens World Series as well as the Rugby World Cup Sevens back in March, hopes that the City Sevens will attract more admirers of the abbreviated game as the sport is a core discipline at the 2014 Games: “I love playing sevens and the City Sevens is always a great day out for players and supporters, especially when we get some nice weather.

“This city is gearing up to host to the Commonwealth Games in five years’ time so the City Sevens is key to attracting new and existing players and fans.

“As always, it’s nice to play in nice weather so I’m crossing my fingers for some sunshine so the people who come to watch can really get a taste of what sevens is all about – fast and exciting rugby with plenty of tries and a great day of celebration.”

Scotland 7s captain, Scott Forrest, feels that the Glasgow event, coupled with the international sevens in Edinburgh at the end of the month, will be a welcome boost to the popularity of the sport in Scotland.

“It’s a nice feeling to be able to pull on a Glasgow jersey at the City Sevens because I know how important it is to promote the sport in the build-up to the 2014 Games.

“These events are great for clubs to show everyone how exciting they can be whilst the Emirates Airline Edinburgh Sevens Festival at Murrayfield in two-weeks’ time will be a real showcase of the world game.”

Glasgow’s first game is against Perthshire RFC at 1.30pm.
