Richie returns

Richie Vernon is back in action
Glasgow Warriors back-row Richie Vernon will make his return to first team action against Cardiff Blues at Firhill tomorrow night (ko 7.30pm) following a period of recuperation from glandular fever.

Richie is named at No.8 alongside Heriot's and National Academy flanker Chris Fusaro who will make his first start for the Warriors. The team will be led by scrum-half Mark McMillan.

Speaking about his rejuvenated No.8, head coach Sean Lineen said: "To get Richie back is fantastic. He's a quality player and is desperate to play and that's what you want. There are some guys who err on the side of caution whereas Richie came up and said 'I want to play'."

On the third man to captain the Warriors so far this season, Sean added: "Mark wears his heart on his sleeve. I think he's a great lad and you'll certainly hear him out there tomorrow night. He's done a great job for us all season."

Cardiff currently trail the Warriors by 12 points in the Magners League, however, Sean is expecting a fierce encounter at Firhill as he refuses to believe that their league position reflects the true strength of their squad.

"Cardiff are a tough team. You look at where they are in the league, it doesn't do the quality of their squad justice and they're going to come at us all guns blazing."

Great To See Academy Players - Alex Dunbar And Chris Fusaro Getting Gametime, Very Surprised To See Paul Burke Of Ayr On The Bench!

Wow - really pleased to see how many frontline guys we've managed to pick! Having the full front row available is great, and also Max and the 2 Richies. Excellent! I will be interested to see how Fusaro gets on - anyone know who Cardiff have got at 7?

Bring it on.

Given its 6 nations time - this is a pretty strong squad - COME ON GLASGOW!

Good choice having Burkey on the bench. As cute an open side as there is in Scottish club rugby...been playing on or over the offside line for years, battled through a couple of serious injuries, to get his reward this year in selection for the Club International team...if young Fusaro struggles (which I doubt he will because he is a class player and should be signed for next season as Barclay's deputy) Burke is a good experienced club player to come on and replace him.
