The event will raise funds to help support four seriously injured young players. Ciaran Pryce, Connor Docherty, Nick Watt and David Azhar have all suffered spinal injuries playing rugby over the last decade.
The funds raised will go towards ongoing education fees, mobility, independence and future employment for the boys with Ciaran, Connor and Nick at university and David having successfully completed his honours degree but now needing a new specialist wheelchair.
The Hearts and Balls event has been organised by Jim Taylor, a former Glasgow rugby player who suffered a spinal injury over 30 years ago and has been instrumental in supporting rugby players seriously injured by the sport ever since. Jim told the Scotsman: "We had a smaller event last year to test the water really and it was a success, so we're going big this time and the support from players, the bands, Glasgow supporters and the wider rugby community has been terrific. We have interest from people from all over Scotland so far.
"Now we need people to buy tickets and come along on the night because the money will be a huge support for these lads."
Jim has persuaded Glasgow and Scotland internationalists to join him at Glasgow's Old Fruitmarket on Friday, 10 June, where the 'John Beattie Band' and 'Big Vern 'n' The Shootahs' will perform.
Get along for what should be an enjoyable night for a very good cause.
Join the party with your friends on Friday, June 10 from 7.30pm to 1.00am. Tickets cost £20 - go to www.tickets-scotland.com, e-mail jim.h.taylor@heartsandballs.org.uk or phone Jim on 0141 9420178.
