Tough workout for Peter Murchie

Peter Murchie had a tough pre-season
New signing Peter Murchie wondered what he'd let himself in for when the Glasgow squad turned up for a pre-season workout at RM Condor in Arbroath.

Peter told the Glaswegian: "For pre-season, we spent two days getting an intense workout from the marines in a base near Arbroath.

"They were something else and I was wondering what on earth I'd let myself in for.

"It was absolutely hellish in what we did and I've never experienced anything like it.

"We all left feeling pretty pleased to come through it only for word to reach us that we would be doing it all again the following morning.

"The least favourite aspect was the sand dune runs which were an absolute nightmare.

"It was a very steep, vertical dune which we had to run up repeatedly.

"That sounds tough enough but for anyone reading this I'll ask them to try doing it with one of your team-mates on your back.

"We also had to run into the sea and crawl through it - freezing doesn't even begin to describe it.

"We also had to run at full pace while holding a heavy log and although it doesn't sound much, we all had to go on our fours and stretch to let one of the guys crawl through the arch we made.

"That doesn't sound like much but holding that position for a lengthy period in the cold after doing all the other exercises I've mentioned was painful."

Peter joined Glasgow from London Welsh and accepts he will be an unknown quantity to many observers.

He added: "It's fair comment that my arrival would have had some asking 'Peter who?'.

"National One League rugby doesn't get as much coverage as the English Premiership so it is natural that people are wondering who I am and why I'm here.

"Hopefully I've shown against Wasps what I can do.

"It is up to me to show them I can be a useful addition to their team and have them saying what a great signing at the end of the season.

"But there is a long way and a lot of hard work to go if that is to happen."
