Selection headache for Sean

Richie Vernon played a big part in Friday's win a Ravenhill
Glasgow coach Sean Lineen says he will have a selection headache for Friday's Heineken Cup clash with Gloucester at Firhill.

The Warriors climbed to the top of the Magners League after a 25-13 victory over Ulster at Ravenhill.

Alastair Kellock and Johnnie Beattie were both rested for the game leaving Sean with some tough decisions to make.

Sean said in the Evening Times: “I have now got some very big decisions to make ahead of the Gloucester game.

“The pack were superb for us and the fact that we stole eight of Ulster’s lineout balls was huge.

“Both Richie Gray and Richie Vernon were magnificent, but we will have Al and Johnnie available for Friday night and there are some tough calls ahead.

“This win was a massive one for us ahead of the Gloucester Heineken Cup tie.

“You never know how the players are going to be after a five-week break for the internationals, but they came up with all the answers in horrendous conditions.

“We can now go into the Gloucester game with confidence high, but certainly not complacent.

“We are looking very strong right now and it makes a change not to be moaning about illness or injury ahead of a big game.

“We will just have to make sure we wrap the boys in cotton wool between now and Friday night.

“But with the home support at our backs and in this form we have a chance to turn around our Heineken Cup campaign.”

Where is the praise for Glasgow and Sean Lineen? So many so called fans on this forum - it seems they only want to criticise when things are going badly. Show some positive support, turn up to watch Glasgow on Friday at Firhill.

Comgratulations Glasgow Warriors. Congtatulations Sean Lineen. Keep up the good work!

Well said there. I do think there's some praise in the Forum but you're completely correct. The boys have done very, very well so far but there's a long way to go yet. We aren't world beaters quite yet.

Having said that I think we'll see a big crowd getting behind our boys on Friday. Lets hope we give them hell!!

Yes they and Lineen have been magnificent.

However the back row and particarly the flankers have been the strength for a few years and there is no way Kelly Brown should be dropped!

Its a hard choice between Vernon and Beattie.

Lets see a huge turn out for a game we should win.

Great place to be though with the backrow, not knowing to who to drop to the bench. Kelly Brown was awesome at the weekend, some of the hits he put in were first class. Showed how hungry he was after the AI's.

I will certainly be there on Friday night and will bring along as many people as I can.

Well done lads and see the rest of you for Friday night!

Got my tickets for Friday from Greaves today and they said they'd sold loads of them... Good news!

I think one of the ways Sean is most underrated is as a team builder. Take our present squad and look at how they've emerged.
When Sean arrived as assistant coach in
03-04 Graeme Morrison & Dan Parks arrived at the same time..Mark
McMillan was a fresh faced youngster on the fringes.
04-05 Kevin Tkachuk and Dan Turner arrive & establish themselves
05-06 Hefin O’Hare, and Tim Barker arrive (Barker was to leave
after 1 season before returning)
John Beattie, Fergus Thomson and Colin Shaw all emerge
Sean Lineen takes over as head coach during season
06-07 Thom Evans, Justin Va'a, Al Kellock arrive
Colin Gregor establishes himself, John Barclay emerges
Rauridh Jackson, James Eddie, Calum Forrester make 1st starts
07-08 Bernie Stortoni, Max Evans, Kelly Brown, Dougie Hall arrive
Moray Low, Ed Kalman emerge and Richie Vernon makes 1st start
08-09 Mark McMillan and Tim Barker return;
Rauridh Jackson emerges; Jon Welsh & Chris Kinloch get 1st
starts
09-10 Rob Dewey, DHT, Peter Murchie and Chris Cusiter arrive
Jon Welsh and Richie Gray emerge; Dave McCall & Pat McArthur
get first starts

It is a story of steady progress - each season adding a few players, giving a few players a start, and ushering some right into the 1st team. To the point now where Sean has been here as long as any of the players and it is definitely the team the Sean built.
