The Warriors edged out Italian side Zebre by 22-19 at Scotstoun last Friday to take their winning run to three games on the bounce and move within three points of PRO12 leaders Ulster.
Next up is a trip to the Arms Park on Saturday night and a battle with the Blues that will pave the way for this season's European campaign.
James told the Evening Times: "It is vital we keep our momentum going at Cardiff on Saturday night. To have put the three wins together is fantastic and gives us a real platform into the trip to Wales and if we can get the win there that would provide a fantastic springboard for the Heineken Cup double header.
"Unfortunately we have been picking up injuries but I think the way that Gregor (Townsend) was able to make 13 changes against Zebre and that we still managed to get the win underlines the depth we now have at Glasgow.
"That is going to be tested to the full over the season and for young guys like Sean Kennedy and Fraser Thomson coming against Zebre and gaining that first-team experience so early in the season and learning what is required to get the win at professional level is important.
"Injury is part and parcel of rugby and it is about how you react to it and can stay positive through the rehab process. For my part at one point it looked like injury was going to cost me my place with Glasgow so it has been great to come back this season and play regularly and I am just enjoying my rugby as much as I have in a long time.
"When you get in a run of games you just want to keep playing week in and week out but obviously with the high attrition rate the coaching staff have tough decisions to make in terms of resting players and making sure the other lads get enough game time to stay sharp.
"But right now we are on a winning run of three games and it is vital we keep that going at Cardiff on Saturday. The target is to be going into the Heineken Cup double header on the back of four straight wins.
"Northampton are going to be a tough nut to crack given they are five wins from five in the English Premiership and then we will have Ulster coming to Scotstoun so it is a tough start."
